We have investigated in detail the placebo effect, which is a syndrome experienced by drug users. The placebo effect, which is among the psychological problems, is called the situation of someone who feels sick, believes that the drug he uses will be good. However, this situation causes serious mental and physiological diseases. So what is the placebo effect and what are the symptoms?
The placebo effect seen in 70 percent of the society has gradually increased with the pandemic process experienced today. With the pandemic caused by the flu infection caused by the Covid -19 virus, people began to believe that they would be protected from the virus by using drugs. However, this is a psychological effect. For centuries, it is a psychological problem to consider any known drug to improve the health condition experienced, even if a specialist does not recommend it. This syndrome, called the placebo effect, feels like it exists even though the drug has no effect. The person feels at ease believing that the medicine has ended the disease. The first experiment with this syndrome was conducted on a group of 56 students in 1996. In the experiment, a cream that was said to have a pain relieving effect was applied to the students' hands. Later, the hands were hit with a hard object. However, those who felt the effect of the pain relief cream strong said that they did not feel the pain caused by the object. After the experiment, some experts used this situation for their patients. For people who persistently say that they are sick even though they do not have any pain, experts usually give their patients psychological relief by administering low-impact drugs. In addition, the person is used to think that any medicine or naturally prepared drug recommended by someone in his health problem is healing his disease. This alleviates the pain he experiences for a short time.
If briefly explained, placebo is a psychological phenomenon applied to reduce the effect of pain. The symptoms of the disease the person is experiencing are alleviated. The effect is short lived. This effect is applied to people who constantly feel sick but who do not have a physiological disease, rather than those with serious illnesses. It is not a treatment method. Placebo psychology, seen as shifting or mitigating, is also in the syndrome group. The patient feels good thanks to the stimulus in his brain. Pain raises the threshold. The placebo effect is also a learning skill.
"This drug is good for my pain" "Button to change traffic lights" "If I drink coffee or tea I get sleepy" "Acidic drinks cause stomach ache" "The sound of rain is good for rest" "Do not think that the closing and opening button in the elevators will be useful" These kinds of stimuli are called placebo effects. In other words, situations that are learned later and are 100% sure that it works are handled within the placebo effect.
It does not pose any problem when applied to people who do not have a serious illness. However, some people apply the placebo effect without consulting experts, not realizing it on their own. This can trigger the severity of their illness. For example, a person who has constant headache believes that the medication he uses at the suggestion of someone relieves his headache. But the headache is constantly recurring. This indicates a serious underlying disease. Late treatment may lead to negative consequences. Therefore, a specialist should be consulted before such applications. The opposite can also happen. Someone who feels depressed, thinks that the sound of rain is good for him and relaxes with this sound.
