One Maine Coon beauty to recently catch our attention is Lotus, a glamorous fluff ball who's full of personality.

With huge fluffy paws, a cotton candy-esque tail, and lynx-like ears, it's easy to see why Lotus has more than 75,000 adoring Instagram followers. The blonde beauty is captured surveying his land and of course having lots of cat naps—he almost takes up the whole couch! Lotus is certainly regal, but like all cats, he also has his silly moments and is often pictured pulling funny faces.

Maine Coon Breed; The Maine Coon is the largest of all domesticated cats. However, its size does not begat any greater aggressive traits. The cat is known kindly as the "gentle giant" and is usually playful and affectionate. Ancestors of the Maine Coon were European. The breed closely resembles the Norwegian Forest Cat. In due course the cat found its way over to the United States (the route is still being argued about). It is one of the oldest breeds of cat in the US and is mostly found in Maine, hence its name.

The ill-fated Queen Antoinette of France who was executed in 1793 is said to have brought her prized Maine Coons with her on board a ship bound for America prior to her capture. Another theory about the cat's arrival in the US is that it came over with the Vikings. The Maine Coon is sometimes called the dog of the cat world due to its size. Instead of mewing Maine Coons chirp. The Maine Coon was the winner of the first American Cat Show in 1895. Unlike their other domesticated cousins Maine Coons love nothing more than a swim.
