A homeless person has been described as a “guardian angel” after running into a burning shelter.
Keith Walker risked his life to save the 6 dogs and 10 cats that were found at the Atlanta animal shelter after a kitchen fire. The 53-year-old, who has been homeless since he was 13, did not hesitate to rush to the WUnderdogs shelter on December 18 to save the animals.
“I was very nervous, I’m not going to lie. He was very afraid to go in there with all that smoke. But God sent me there to save these animals, “Keith told CNN.
“If you love a dog, you can love anyone in the world. My dog is my best friend and I wouldn’t be here without him, so I knew I had to save all these other dogs. ” Shelter founder Gracie Hamlin said the fire made the WUnderdogs uninhabitable. She said Keith was not afraid when he saved the animals. “Even the firefighters didn’t want to deal with the dogs. They called Animal Control, but Keith was already in the building taking the cats and dogs out until everyone was safe, ”Gracie said. Gracie already knew Keith, the man she calls her “guardian angel,” as she allows him to have his own pit bull named Bravo at the shelter every night. Keith was on his way to pick up Bravo and take him for a walk when he saw the fire. `He is my hero` “I can’t thank you enough for saving my animals,” Gracie said. “I am still in disbelief because I have been near a fire and I know how quickly they ignite. He is my hero. ” Fortunately, the shelter was only a week away from moving into a new facility where the animals now live.
