The Church is known for helping the less fortunate around us, and for Father João Paulo de Araujo Gomes at Paróquia de Sant’Ana Gravatá, this includes our four-legged friends.
Every Sunday, in a heartwarming act of charity, he includes the street dogs of Gravatá in his Mass.
The dogs are invited into the church, and Father Gomes includes them in his sermon in the hope that these lovable pups will find their new forever homes among his congregation.
Throughout the week, the dogs are taken care of by Father Gomes in his rectory where they are safe from the dangers and struggles of the streets.
Father Gomes said that “caring for animals and nature as a whole is a great gesture of love for God, humanity and the planet.”
The dogs make an adorable addition to the church as they stroll around, nap, and collect pats and snuggles from the worshippers.
Father Gomes has personally adopted several of the dogs, and he hopes that by introducing the dogs to his congregation, even more of them may find their forever homes.
And Father Gomes’s love and compassion have spread throughout the community. Volunteers help Father Gomes keep the dogs with steady access to fresh food and water.
Father Gomes says that what he does is “just a drop of water in the face of the magnitude of the problem,” and highlights the importance of volunteers and the need to work together. He hopes that his actions will raise awareness, inspire others, and lead to a better world for everyone.
And his actions are already making waves on social media. Thousands of people have reached out to voice their appreciation and support. His selfless deeds have touched hearts around the world and undoubtedly inspired new acts of kindness.
The precious pups of Paróquia de Sant’Ana Gravatá can rest easy, knowing that they are safe in Father Gomes’s loving arms.
