When you have a pet, you would swear that you would do whatever it takes to keep them safe. But have you ever come across a situation where you will have to put this promise to a test? When push comes to shove, would you be brave enough to face danger to save your pet? Well, a foothills man proved that he would, and he did!
When others are not sure whether they would step in the line of danger for their pet, for Placer County’s 73-year-old Carl Moore, the answer is a definitive “Yes!”
He is not a guy who scares easily. He came face-to-face with a bear outside his home. But instead of running for safety and save himself from the possible danger, he didn’t run. He didn’t call wildlife officials either. Instead, he decided to take the matter into his own hands.
Earlier in April, Moore had let his pet “Lacy,” a tiny chihuahua, outside to play in their yard. Out of the blue, Carl noticed that Lacy sounded distressed. And when he turned, he saw what was happening. His little pooch was staring up at a large bear. Carl quickly ran directly into the scene, screaming “RAHH! Get out of here you b****d!!” He continued screaming: “I ain’t run from nothing; I never have in my whole life and I ain’t going to start now. And you’re not going to sacrifice my babies for some damn bear.” But no matter how he screamed as he frantically waved his arms, this did not scare off the bear. He shared, “And I raised both hands in the air and I cussed at him, ‘Rrraaaaaaa! Get out of here you bastard, and he looked at me like ‘Go eff yourself.’ He come up like this, and turned, BOOM, I hit him hard.” Those who know Carl are not surprised that he did this. John Sargent has known Carl for 25 years. And if you ask him if it’s possible for Carl to go after the bear to save his pet, he’ll say you bet! He shared, “Carl just smacks it, I couldn’t believe it.” John is a friend and an employee of the construction company that Carl owns. He says that the bear was a bit shorter than Carl, but still, the wild animal is a scary opponent for the elderly pet owner. He added, “He’s an ex-first recon Marine. He’s been in barroom brawls, all kinda stuff.” But the encounter with the bear was not Carl Moore’s first time to face a dangerous situation. You see, as an ex-first recon Marine, he is known as a man who never backs down from a fight. He said, “I ain’t run from nothing; I never have in my whole life and I ain’t going to start now. And you’re not going to sacrifice my babies for some damn bear.” After one hard punch to the muzzle from Carl, the bear turned away and ran back off into the woods. And from then on, the bear was never to be seen again. And if in case the bear returns, one thing is for sure. That bear can expect more of the same from Carl.
