I just love cobalt blue. This blue shade is so eye-searing, making humans and creatures in it conspicuous. The golden-crowned tanager is among these strikingly beautiful birds. Most of its body is covered with charismatic cobalt blue, except for the bright yellow crown and jet black head and neck. There are also yellow feathers on its rump and black feathers on its blue tail.

The golden-crowned tanager is a species of bird in the Thraupidae family. It's native to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. These birds feed mainly on seeds, fruits, nectar, flower parts. As an omnivorous species, they also seek insects for food. They distribute on opposite sides of the Marañon Valley in Peru. They are commonly found in subtropical and or tropical moist montane forests.

The breeding season is from March through to June in temperate areas, with males showing off their brightest feathers to potential mates and possible male rivals. A nest is built by the female in an area with dense vegetation where a clutch of up to five eggs is laid. She alone incubates the eggs with the male kicking in to help feed the young once they have hatched.
