House fires can be devastating. It can rob a family of everything that they have. And sometimes, lives are lost, including those of their pets. But luckily, this dog named Jake survived the house fire!
He was rescued by the firefighters from the Hanahan, South Carolina Fire Department and his family quickly took him to the vet. But instead of coming back for him after he was well and recovered, his family abandoned him forever. After seeing the results of the fire, they decided they did not want anything to do with him anymore. The fire turned him into a burnt and scarred puppy.
You see, the Pit Bull mix pup was only a few weeks old at the time that the house fire almost killed him. At the vet, there was no doubt that without his human family around, he was so confused and scared. But thankfully, Jake made a full recovery. It took a couple of weeks of rehab and he is finally better. However, his scars remained. The firefighter named Bill Lindler who rescued Jake could not believe how his human family abandoned him. He couldn’t stand the thought of the dog being anywhere else, so he decided to adopt him! Soon enough, a friendship born from a heroic rescue is what these two shared. According to Bill, there was an immediate connection between them. He shared, “I actually met Jake at a fire when he was a 3-week old puppy. I knew this little guy would need a good little loving home.” When Bill found out that Jake needed a new home after his family left him at the vet, he quickly volunteered. And it did not take long for Bill to finally adopt Jake. And almost instantly, the two formed an incredible bond. Soon after finding his new forever home with Bill, Jake also found a job! Yes, you read it right. Jake became an official firefighter with help from the Mayor of Hanahan. He was sworn in by the city as an official member of the fire department. Bills’ fellow firefighters love the pooch. One of them said, “We can go out on a real bad call and come back and he’s there and happy to see us.” Now Jake did not only find a furever family, but he also gained new friends. He loves hanging out at the fire station with his new dad. In fact, aside from being a firefighter, he is also the official mascot of the department. He would travel around with firefighters to assist with fire safety lectures at schools. And Jake is not stopping there. He is training to become a therapy dog and there is no doubt that he is going to be good at this new job soon. And for the meantime, he does a lot of things to make a difference. Although Jake’s story didn’t end well after the house fire with his former family, the new beginning with Bill is looking good for this pooch. We are just thankful that Jake is in a better place now. There is no doubt that he will continue to inspire and make a positive impact while surrounded by people who love him.
