Photos of an adorable cat, that shares a striking resemblance to Baby Yoda, have gone viral. The little cutie was spotted by veterinary assistant Jana Aviles, who couldn't resist taking a few snaps when the cat arrived at the North Carolina veterinary hospital she works at.
Sharing the photos, she wrote: "I met this little cutie while working at the vet's yesterday. She was brought in by a rescue after she was found as an injured stray. She is so cute, like, have you ever?"
It wasn't long before the post was flooded with comments - just under 4,000, in fact - with many unable to get passed the cats similarity to The Mandalorian star, while others were begging to adopt the cat. Credit: Jana Aviles
In a follow-up post, Jana wrote that she wasn't responsible for rehoming the cat and urged anyone interested in considering adopting a little furry pal closer to home. She wrote: "There is only ONE Yoda cat, so there is only ONE home out there for her. So many people have offered to travel across the country to adopt this cat, and even people from other countries have reached out to me."
Jana also used the post's viral reach to point out some shocking statistics, writing that 4 million stray cats are brought into shelters every year in the US and, of these, 1.4 million cats are euthanized every year due to lack of homes. Heartbreaking stuff, eh? Jana added: "Everyone please check your local shelters. I guarantee you that your new best friend is waiting for you as I type this. Yoda cat may look cool, but looks aren't everything. If you adopt a new pet because of this post, please comment their picture here and encourage others to adopt too."
Her sentiments were echoed in the responses, with one person replying to say it was 'so sad' that plenty of other lovely little cats would be 'overlooked' by potential owners, who were hoping to get 'something different'. Jana also encouraged people to share details of their local rescue centres, as well as where they're from, to help out anyone hoping to adopt a cat or kitten. Featured Image Credit: Jana Aviles
