Usually dogs and rabbits are not getting along very well. However, when it comes to man’s best friend nothing is impossible. And we’ve witnessed to so many lovely stories about dogs comforting and showing their love and kindness to other species. Nevertheless, pups continue to impress everyone and this story is another proof of what incredible creatures, dog can be.
Mindy Hayes from Erie, Pennsylvania has always been kind to animals. A couple of years ago she even rescue a pit bull from fighting rings and they live together ever since. But last year, Mindy decided to adopt a rabbit, too, without knowing how Grace, her 2-year-old beloved pup would react.
"Grace had a very rough start to life," Mindy told the Dodo. "Before she was rescued she had been used for fighting and then was tied up to a tree." So she decided to slowly introduce Sophie, the giant bunny to her canine sister. But what the woman didn't know was her dog's kindness was limitless and she instantly befriend the family's newest member.
"It was an instant connection," Mindy said. "They sniffed one another, and they just blossomed from there. Knowing where she came from and to see her be so loving to everyone, especially to a rabbit, is really spreading awareness to who these dogs really are. They are not bad dogs. She wants to be friends with everyone she meets."
And since then, Grace and Sophie are inseparable. The unlikely duo shows once again that when it comes to love and caring, the animal kingdom knows no borders. "I can't keep them apart," the duo's mom said. "Grace is constantly following Sophie, laying with her on the couch and licking her head. Grace would groom Sophie until she is sopping wet if I let her.
"The bond these two have is unbreakable," she said.
