Dogs can sometimes get themselves into unusual places. They can get trapped somewhere that baffles their owners how on earth they found their way into this situation. That is exactly what happened to this dog named ‘Gertie.’
Thankfully, officials from the Cincinnati Fire Department were able to rescue her after getting trapped between two concrete walls for five days!
Firefighters from the department responded to a call to the 1600 block of Thompson Heights in Cincinnati, Ohio, around 9:40 in the morning. As reported by Fox News Affiliate WXIX, a homeowner at the building heard a dog crying behind a garage wall. Now that might be unlikely but the homeowner was sure that the cries for help were coming from the wall behind his garage.
According to Vanessa Rolland, she called the authorities that morning when she heard noises from her garage. They were sure that it was a dog. She then explained to the authorities that they were aware that a dog has been missing and she might be hearing that dogs’ cries. Rolland said, “We were just excited. We were like, I can’t believe, ‘cause we knew it had been a while, so we thought like this is exciting, and hopefully, she’s okay.” When the firefighters arrived at the scene, they quickly realized that the dog crying out for help had been the missing pooch, Gertie! Gertie had fallen down a small crevice and was trapped between two concrete walls. And for the last five days that she had been missing, she was just right there hoping someone would hear her cries. In order to get the dog out of free the small gap, the firefighters used a sledgehammer and a saw. They knocked a hole through the wall. It took them 10 minutes to break down part of the building and bring the dog out to safety. The fire department that rescued the dog released a short clip of the final minute of the rescue operation. It shows the heartwarming moment as a firefighter breaks through the wall with a sledgehammer before pulling Gertie to our safety. The dog was clearly glad she was rescued as she was wagging her tail after being picked up by the official. Gertie’s owners, Connie Frick, and Lynn Herman were very happy after receiving the news that she was doing fine despite being a bit tired. According to the fire department, the missing posters for Gertie had been up for five days. Frick and Herman said Gertie had run away into the woods on that day when Herman opened the front door of their property. Gertie was probably stuck inside the gap for the full five days. The owners expressed their gratitude for their neighbors who quickly alerted the authorities to Gertie’s cries. Frick said: “It was just so sweet, just wagging that little nub tail, and she was just so, she was so excited.” For a dog to be trapped in this situation is understandable. But for a human, that might seem like strange news. Gertie’s rescue came just a few days after firefighters in California saved a naked woman who was trapped between two buildings in a space that was around 8 inches wide. The woman was trapped in the small gap between two automotive establishments in Santa Ana, California. She was rescued by firefighters after employees at one of the body shops heard her crying for help.
