American Akitas are dog breeds that are known to be loyal, strong, and very alert. They are cousins with the Japanese Akita, a breed that was originally used for hunting and as protectors of the home. Japanese Akitas do their job so well which is why they are very popular in Japan. And since Akitas are very popular, Helen Keller decided to bring them to America way back in 1937. But because of the difference in breeding practices, the American Akitas can be differentiated because of their unique characteristics. This American Akita is Keola. She lives with her human parents, Alhanna and Ricky Butler in their home in England. Keola was with them since she was a puppy. They loved her dearly and in return, she also showed her loyalty towards them. Akitas rank very high when it comes to intelligence. In fact, they are some of the smartest dogs and they become very suspicious of strangers. And because of these characteristics, this American Akita would end up saving the life of her human mom. Keola knew that something’s and she made sure to warn them about it. When the couple found out that Alhanna was pregnant, they were all excited, including Keola. They can’t wait to meet the new member of the family. But Keola’s instincts kicked in when she noticed the moving baby inside Alhanna’s tunny. The dog seemed to know that something was wrong and this also worried her. Keola could sense that something was wrong but Alhanna cannot understand what this dog was trying to tell her. She never thought that there is anything that she should worry about because she was making sure that she is eating right for the baby, she was taking her prenatal vitamins, and religiously does her exercises. But what she noticed is that she had increasing pain in her back. The doctor initially dismissed her complaints as a normal part of her pregnancy. They thought it was just her hormones that cause the loosening of the ligaments to prepare for childbirth. However, Keola felt otherwise. Alhanna noticed that Keola has been acting strange. She would constantly sniff at Alhanna and as time passes by, the dogs’ attitude worsens. Even her friends who saw the photo of Keola sniffing her belly thought that the dog was trying to tell her something. So Alhanna made another appointment with her doctor. This time, they were able to determine that she had a rare double-kidney infection. Her life was in danger but thankfully, Keola saved her life.
