They bark together, cross the street alongside each other, as if they are protecting one another, and watching each others’ backs. They roam the busy streets together scavenging for food and for temporary shelter. It is clear how loyal they are to each other. A YouTube video has gone viral when someone was able to record a pack of dogs doing an act of loyalty towards another dog. This clip immediately went viral for all the right reasons! The video was taken in Lanzhou, Central China and it shows a dog is lying in the middle of the road. It was clear that the dog is hurt and was probably hit by a car. However, he is not alone. He is surrounded by four other dogs. In fact, his friends are trying to nudge him as if encouraging him to get back up. Sadly, it looks like the dog did not make it. If you look closely, the dogs don’t want to leave their friend alone. They kept their ground, watching over his body. Because of what they were doing, they literally stopped traffic and more and more cars are surrounding them, wondering why these dogs are not moving from their positions.An eyewitness shared that it seems like the other dogs did not realize that their friend died. They are waiting patiently for him, nudging him to get up, hoping that he would start walking again. Dog experts reveal that we might not realize it, but dogs also grieve the loss of their companion. In fact, some dogs can get really depressed when they lose another dog that is very close to them. Their depression and grief are evident through their physical response. They can get lethargic, they lose interest in food, and they can get sick too. Dogs can also have a change in personality, like they can be more dominant, after losing a friend. In the animal kingdom, dogs are not the only ones who feel this way. Sarah Simmons shared a photo of a group of ponies standing by, watching another horse who got hit by a car. This is why when we are on the road, we should not only be mindful of other cars passing by us. We should also watch out for stray animals that we might accidentally hit. Animals have emotions too. And like these dogs, they can also feel the loss and grief that we humans experience when someone that is close to our hearts. The only difference is that dogs do not fully understand the situation. The next thing they know, their friend is not with their pack anymore. And this can be heartbreaking for them too.
