Shelters often have to make tough life decisions on sick and homeless dogs as they lack the resources to provide for their medical expenses. Gregory, a 2-year-old Beagle, had a similar fate looming over his head when he got diagnosed with heartworm.
Workers at Ohio's Franklin County Dog Shelter were heartbroken. They had no choice but to put the sickly Gregory on the kill-list. But the sprightly dog was filled with such spark for life that they decided to make a final plea for help. They shared Gregory's story with his euthanasia deadline on social media, and soon, animal lover Joe Kirk came forward to rescue Gregory!
Joe runs a rescue organization with his wife, and is often on the lookout for needy dogs that have lost all hope. The moment he saw Gregory, Joe just knew that he had to save this starry-eyed little baby! So he immediately set on a 2-hour drive to bring Gregory home.
Joe usually transports his rescues in crates. But since Gregory had been caged for so long, Joe just let him lounge in the backseat of his car. Halfway through his freedom ride, Gregory finally realized that he had escaped the kill-list and is safe. In a sweet moment, the grateful pup reaches out to Joe and snuggles up to him to express his love!
Joe was so overwhelmed that he decided to take photos of Gregory's sweet gesture and post them to his page. The pictures soon went viral and people lined up to adopt this joyful darling. Currently, Gregory is still receiving his treatments and will move to his forever home once he is medically cleared. Spread his story and help him find a home!
