Ramba is a ‘breezy and well-grounded’ elephant despite the fact that she had lived a difficult life. She spent 14 years in a circus where she was mistreated.

We all know that animals, especially elephants in circuses are prone to abuse. It is important to remember that elephants are highly endangered. According to facts, there were millions of African elephants that once roamed the continent. Now, there are estimated 300,000 elephants that still exist and many of them are found in sub-Saharan Africa.

A small NGO in Chile called Ecopolis started a campaign to have the poor elephant removed from the circus property where she continued to live an abused life. After a couple of years, they were able to gain permission to relocate her to a roadside zoo which served as her temporary home. After the arrangements for her to be transferred to a sanctuary in the United States was not successful, Ecopolis had to deal with the huge responsibility and the expenses of caring for the elephant and also finding her another suitable home. Ramba had pre-existing health conditions and caring for her became a responsibility that they were not prepared. This is when the Global Sanctuary for Elephants stepped in. they helped direct her care, train caregivers, and also provided funder for the supplements that Ramba needed. They also provided funds to pay for caregiver salaries and also offer her a home that she needs live-out together with other elephants for the rest of her life. At the sanctuary, Ramba will be able to enjoy the pastures and the forests and live a happy life of retirement. Everyone is hoping that now that Ramba is with other beings that can understand her journey and in a protected space, she will start to heal and begin to open up emotionally. According to the Global Sanctuary for Elephants, she is stable when it comes to her health and is doing very well.
