Sometimes when you’re sealing on a crab-fishing boat, there are a lot of surprising things you might spot. It happened days ago to Mallory Harrigan and her colleagues.
While they were sailing into the Atlantic Ocean's waters off the Labrador coast in Canada, the crew spotted something unusual. At about 3-4 miles away from their boat there was something pretty strange on a mushroom-shaped iceberg.
So, to feed their curiosity, they decided to get a little bit closer. And what apparently seems to be a baby seal turned out into a pretty less expected visitor for that place. "We thought it was a baby seal," Harrigan told The Dodo. What the fishing boat crew thought to be a marine seal it actually was an artic fox. And more than that he looked in real trouble out there.
After they've seen the poor animal struggling they've decided to help out. "We were able to get him aboard even though he fought it," Harrigan said. "We knew we were his only chance for survival, as the winds had changed and were driving all the ice farther out to sea."And in the end they managed to rescue the helpless animal.
Before returning back to the land, Harrigan offered some food to the poor fox. She even build a bed for him in order to get some rest as he looked really exhausted. Once the boat reached the land, the fox was released into his natural habitat. "We dropped him off in an old doghouse," she said. "He shook himself off and that was it!"
Stories like this remember us that some small acts of kindness could mean everything for someone."We're glad to have saved an animal," Harrigan said, noting the fox seems to be doing well, and appears occasionally to remind his rescuers of the life they saved. "We can still see him from time to time!"
