The peacock is a medium-sized bird most closely related to the pheasant (also known as peafowl). The peacock is situated in the warmer climate of the Southern Hemisphere, with the peacock being most commonly found in India, unlike its common pheasant relative that inhabits areas of the Northern Hemisphere.
The colourful plumage of peacocks is well known, but the term peacock specifically refers to the males of the genus. Females have wings that are more suited to the surrounding climate.

The body feathers of the blue peacock are mainly metallic blue-green. The green peacock features green and bronze body feathers, with a train much like the blue one. Hens of both sexes are green and brown and are almost as wide as the male, but they lack the ornament of the train and head. Both species live in open lowland forests in the wild, flocking by day and roosting by night high in trees.
